Edge of the Known

I have not been to many caves in my lifetime, but every one I have been to has felt sacred. Preacher’s Cave is no different. Caves offer my imagination a doorway into the earth. Often the light does not reach very far into the oepning, and just holding the possibility that behind the shadows is a further depth is enough to push me into a place of wonder. Every step into the depth becomes tentative. I often find myself whispering instead of using my full voice, as if even speaking too loud might distub the depth.

Located on the North Shore of Eleuthera, Preacher’s Cave is a naturally formed limestone cave. Archeological evidence shows that it hs been used as a shelter and burial site since at least the 8th century.
