On a visit though the eco village of Findhorn, Scotland, I came across this gate at the original site of the group of six people who accidentally began the community. The gate reads, “Love in Action” and is located in front of the site of their original garden and trailer. They came to the trailer site and made a garden to help feed the family. Dorothy Maclean’s capacity to listen to plants and the land helped to turn the soil from a sandy wasteland into a flourishing garden. As word spread about their garden, the community grew, and still flourishes today as a world renowned eco-community. I was personally moved and inspired to see what kind of community can grow from this small act of care of one woman, the land, and her vision.
