If you are one to celebrate the solstice these next two weeks are it.
This is the final week of the solar year.
On Sunday the sun sets on the old solar year and then rises the next morning–reborn as a new year.
For those of us in the north this means the next two weeks are the darkest of the year,
It is the part of the wheel of the year where we inhabit the deep dark.
But this year it is extra special because there is a New Moon within days of the solstice.
This whole season is extra dark.
Whether you make resolutions or set intentions or make space for reflection, these next two weeks offer a rare and beautiful invitation to sit in the deep dark.
It is a beautiful truth that some stars are only visible on the darkest nights.
Taken as a personal metaphor, these next two weeks are a cosmic invitation to peer into your own inner world, and there, in the deep dark meet parts of yourself that you can only know when the brightness of sun and moon are obscured.
And darkness is not the only gift of this time.
The New Dreaming Moon takes place in the final degrees of Mutable Fire sign of Sagittarius.
In other words, this is not the time to launch into a new adventure.
Instead, this moon offers us the wisdom of tempered agency.
The final degrees of Sag are the point of integration, right before Cardinal Earth Capricorn ushers in the seasonal shift.
The gift of this moon offers us the tempered wisdom of the mutable fire sign–right before we plunge into winter. as a first offering into the Dreaming Moon cycle of Capricorn.
It’s as if to ask in these final moments of the solar year–given all that has been, everything we know, what’s next? What new worlds can we co-create?
New Worlds require dreaming.
Dreams require the deep dark.
Love to you as you enter this season.
