Celebrating a big beautiful full moon in Gemini this week with the tenth card of the Major Arcana: The Wheel of Fortune. This week the moon makes her way across the mutable air sign Gemini—The Twins. Symbolized by twin pillars, visual ideas of duality emerge in the paleolithic, as far back as 20,000 years, with double goddess figure carved from Mammoth bone in Avdeevo, Russia. Gemini is a sign associated with communication, but beyond that, it speaks of the relationship that happens between subjects. It is the mystery that emerges when dualism gives way to unity though interconnection.
In the Wheel of Fortune we meet this same invitation into relationship. This card marks the midway point on the Fool’s journey, where they realize they are part of a much bigger cosmos than they ever dreamed of. The Fool steps into the reality that the world around them is animate, mutable, and agentic. Within this cosmic dance there are many cycles. No longer able to bumble along in ignorance, believing in their own omnipotence, they must contend with the invitation to surrender to forces beyond their control. In this realization they are invited to see themselves as a part of a whole rather than apart from it.
This is an invitation to surrender to change. The Wheel of Fortune invites you to consider yielding your dominance into the animate world around you—there you are met within an emergent world responding and responsive to your presence. You cannot predict which way your path will turn, but you can predict one thing: it will not be static. When you surrender to this life force of the wild cosmos you will not be the same person for the journey. This card invites you to into fundamental paradox: when you plunge into the unknown you move away from your fate and into your destiny.
