Card of the Week: Judgement

Description: A woman lies apparently dead or asleep in a bed of dry leaves. A stone path leads to an open doorway and into a new landscape. The outline of a full frontal nude woman rises up towards the open door. Open angel wings are spread above the doorway along with a string of music calling the woman through.

Meaning: Judgement has been used by authorities and hierarchies to cultivate landscapes of fear, oppression and control. But there is a kind of judgement that is lifegiving. There is a judgement that is vulnerable, open, creative, and connective. This card speaks of the kind of judgement that wakes the dead. It is a judgement that asks the seeker to strip away the covers that hide them so they can move into a new life. There is no need to hide. Just show up to yourself, your heart, your story. There is no right or wrong answer here–except to accept. Like a doorway into a new landscape, the act of being so honest and vulnerable with yourself, your story, and your heart initiates new forms. It is possible to be transformed in the process of speaking your story outloud. It can be terrifying, but remember, as in nature, death is central to the emergence of new life.

Reading: This week brings on a first quarter moon in Aquarius during the season of Scorpio in the week of Samhain. It is time to ask what old selves are asking to be laid to rest, honoured for the lives lived, and, like a seed buried with the intention of waking new habits. This kind of transformation is only possible with a full frontal look at yourself. Say your story outloud. Speak it to yourself, collage it in a journal, or say it to someone you trust. The act of witnessing and being witnessed is core to transformation.
