Where I usually feel a seamless transition from one year to the next, this year I feel the need to be a bit more reflective.
2012 was a year of finding my voice, “becoming visible.” Last year I took leap into the world of creativity, and threw out what I could find. I made friends with a quote by Martha Graham, taking it as both an encouragement and a warning:
There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening, that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost.
With these words I shut my eyes and began creating. And now, looking back and looking forward, I am encouraged to maintain and perhaps quicken the pace.
I have three goals for 2013:
- Have my first watercolour exhibit.
- Perform my music live.
- Maintain my blog.
It will be hard to top 2012 on some level. There is nothing quite like the first step in a journey, but I am curious and excited to see where the road leads.
I wish you well in the new year, wherever you are on the road. May you be curious and excited to continue.
