It is hard to escape being cheesy when one surveys the vast array of materials that exist to “create your own” wedding card for a friend. Colors, phrases, and images are pre-chosen, and phrases like “your big day” or “to the happy couple” or (my personal least favorite)”happily ever after” abound. Some are fine enough phrases, just as there is nothing wrong with hearts and pastel colors. But I get a little tired of the same old craft script for wedding cards.
I recommend reinventing, up cycling, and cutting the cheese. Use last years Christmas papers for the card colors. Use Tim Hortons bags as a card base. And resist “The Happy Couple” and put something else on the front. “the bookish couple”, “the tardy couple”, “the extraordinarily cute couple”…. The phrases are as vast as the couple themselves! No need to let a premeditated phrase determine your friend’s existence.
