Fhear a Bhata

It seems important for artists to not only look for other artists who inspire them but to look for other artists to imitate. As I learn new pieces of celtic music I am listening to more celtic voices. I have long been an admirer of Loreena McKennet, however, sometimes I find her voice too classical, or too full. Of course, she is a great break from many cletic singers whose voices are far too thin…

My next song that I am learning is Fhear a Bhata. I have stumbled across Colleen Raney’s version, and I just love not only her interpretation of the piece but the sound of her voice. She gets just enough clarity and just enough grit to make it a superb folk sound.

I aspire to sound like this.
